Alumni Spotlight: Music
“Make every second count” is Pippa Crossland’s advice to anyone wishing to study music at LIPA Sixth Form College (LSFC).
Now in her first year of studying popular music at Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Pippa enjoyed the practical nature of the music course at LSFC. She says, “I gained lots of great performance experience while studying at LSFC, which was incredibly useful in the Higher Education application and audition process. It has also helped equip me for the step up to studying a degree.”
Pippa’s favourite experience while at LSFC was the rooftop gig which celebrated the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ final performance on the roof of their Savile Row offices in London. “Our band had to learn the whole B side of Abbey Road, which really tested my abilities with harmonies and singing in different styles.” She was also interviewed at the time by BBC Radio Merseyside and BBC Radio 5 Live, which gave her experience of the media. To get the most out of LSFC, Pippa believes you need to be a team player. “One of the biggest parts of being a musician at LSFC is ensemble work, so being committed to your band is important.”
Pippa’s studies at RNCM include creative music production, DAW work, theory, music industry research and songwriting. She plans to release her original music over the coming year and will also be performing with the RNCM Session Orchestra.
