Performance: The Children’s Theatre Project 2025

Our Musical Theatre students brought their A-Game for their Children’s Theatre Project, putting their scriptwriting, performance and collaboration skills to the test.

Musical Theatre students not only wrote their own magical stories, reimagining classic fairy tales but also integrated elements from the Year 3 school curriculum to create engaging, educational scripts. Directed by Beckie Price and the Musical Theatre team, this exciting production brought together our first-year Musical Theatre students and the Technical Theatre & Design course to create an all-singing, all-dancing spectacle for Year 3 primary school children.

Throughout the process, they refined their skills in the three core disciplines of musical theatre while working closely with Technical Theatre & Design students, who brought the production to life through their expertise in lighting, sound, set, and costume design.

'Performing in front of children can really boost your confidence whilst also teaching you to be adaptable. When you're on stage or presenting to kids, their reactions can vary widely. This unpredictability forces you to think on your feet and adjust your performance in real-time, which is a valuable skill. At the same time, the positive feedback and encouragement you receive from them can significantly enhance your self-esteem. So, together, these experiences help you become more self-assured and flexible, making you more comfortable in various social situations.' - Elliorr Evans, Year 1 Musical Theatre student.

This intensive and rewarding project not only helped our students grow as performers, designers, and creators but also filled local primary school children with joy and inspiration. This year, pupils from Christ the King, LIPA School, Cronton C of E, and Childwall C of E were treated to a spectacular morning of theatre in our Willy Russell Theatre—an unforgettable experience for all involved.

One of the visiting teachers captured the mood after the event: ‘The Children’s Theatre Performance was a fantastic, immersive experience for the children - one that they are still talking about now! The performers were brilliant and well-rehearsed, and it was truly an enjoyable experience. Thank you for making us feel so welcome by everyone ...We really appreciated this experience and would love to be involved again in future events.’ – Cronton Primary School
