Rent is a sell-out
Our first-ever end of year production - Rent – has played to sell-out audiences each night of its run this month.
Set in the East Village of New York City, Rent is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, it was a winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In the twenty five years since its first performance, it has become a pop cultural phenomenon, with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages.
This production had two casts which alternate between performances, and which were made up of LIPA Sixth Form College actors, dancers and musicians. Technical and design students led in the creation of set design, costume and lighting for the production.
Director Eddie Chinn is delighted by the hard work the students have put into the performance, saying: “Their commitment is second to none, and it’s been a real pleasure for the staff team to work with them.”
Charles Bartholomew, Director of Sixth Form, said: “I am very proud of all our students - what a way to end our first year!”
